As you know we launched our new SmartTheme last week and you’ve been making some awesome new WordPress sites already!

We wanted to take this opportunity to answer some of the common questions we are getting.

Firstly let us explain in this video how OptimizePress and the SmartTheme work together.

General Frequently Asked Questions

This document will detail SmartTheme frequently asked questions to help craft blog content and training.

Do I have to update to the SmartTheme?

No. You can continue using the OptimizePress Theme but we will not be releasing any new features. The updates will only be bug and security fixes. We are no longer offering the OptimizePress Theme for download in the members hub. Updates will only be for existing site installs. If there are features you’re looking for in the SmartTheme that are holding you back from switching, let our support team know (tag your email as feature request)

Do I need new API keys?

No, if you are already using the OptimizePress Theme you can activate the plugin. If you are already using the plugin you can active the SmartTheme and the same key will work. Remember each API key is limited to 1 domain name.

Does this replace my Landing Pages?

No. Your landing pages are managed by OptimizePress (Plugin). Install the plugin to keep all your existing LiveEditor pages.

How do I make landing pages now?

Use the OptimizePress Plugin. This includes the LiveEditor and all our landing page, sales page and membership page templates (as well as lots of other marketing page designs ready for you to use)

Does OptimizeMember work with the SmartTheme?

Yes and it will run a little quicker on blog posts & pages.

What happens to my Facebook comments?

The SmartTheme does not directly integrate with Facebook comments however you can use a third party plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/comments-from-facebook/

We will test and post further updates on this.

What about my SEO on my blog?

We recommend you use a third party like Yoast or All In One SEO. Copy across any pages meta data etc into the SEO plugin before you activate the SmartTheme.

Design & Layout

Can I turn off the header image option?

No, if you don’t use an image it will be the default colour background behind the post/page title.

Can I add category hero images?

No, not at this time. We’re working on an update which will allow you to do this. Anyone with active updates & support will receive updates to the SmartTheme directly to their WordPress dashboard when they are available.

Can I have two columns layout (Column|Content|Column – Column|Column|Content) ?

Not at this time.

Can I have different hero images on each posts or page?

Yes, you can set a global default image in the main settings or customise the image via each page or post settings. We have a really useful guide to customizing hero sections on your pages here (the process is very similar for posts)

Can I add custom CSS?

Yes. This can be added within the Theme Options > Custom Scripts > CSS.

What size should we make the hero / featured image?

The average desktop size monitor resolution is around 1280px wide. We would use that as a minimum width. Landscape images will work better for the hero section

Can we turn off the blog post hero header?

Yes with some CSS but it will also remove the post title. You could try this CSS to minimize the height:

.op-blog-header-content {min-height: 300px;}

As this FAQ document continues to grow we will update this list on our knowledgebase.

      Why is my logo being shrunk in the header? I have uploaded it at 220px wide and it is being shown at 88.7px? businessbeyondyourbook.com

      • David Frosdick

        Please drop us an email in support and we’ll take a look.

    • Bryan Teare

      Thanks for featuring my site in the hero image, guys 🙂

    • Chris Hunter

      I’ve really enjoyed the 3 latest webinars on using Smart Theme. I plan on switching to the using this new theme soon. I would really appreciate a webinar on building a Membership site using Smart Theme. Are there any plans in the works to do a webinar on this topic soon?

      • David Frosdick

        We might do a webinar on that topic but we would probably build the membership site with OptimizePress and only use the SmartTheme on the blog side.

    • Carla

      I use Optimizepress as a plugin. To use it as a theme will I have to activate another license?

    • Jamie Giannini

      I love this theme.

      Looks great, and very functional.

      But it needs to have the ability to just turn off the “Hero” Option on pages and posts. Either site-wide or per page option.

      It doesn’t make sense on every page, and to force it doesn’t make sense. Hopefully, we get the option to toggle it off in the near future.

      Other than that, love it!

    • Barbara

      My BLOG PAGE doesn’t connect to my mobile phone. Live Editor is fine. But Anything to do with the blog is not working on my mobile phone. It doesn’t reflect any changes. It doesn’t reflect the new MENUE. But if I go into any other page like ABOUT I can navigate to the correct BLOG PAGE.

    • Steven

      So if you use the new theme for say a home page, you don’t have a page builder anymore. You have to use OP plugin and it will look different as an overall site!

    • Tiago

      Hello, I wonder if is possible to insert the optin option on the blog page.
      I only have this option if I have the Blog page setup as a homepage (which I dont want).
      I can insert the optin on Blog pages, category pages on everything but the blog.
      Is there a way to fix it?

      Thanks

      • David Frosdick

        The blog doesn’t have to be your “home” page but you can turn on the optin for the “blogs homepage e.g /blog”

    • Koen

      How can I remove the tag “WordPress Theme by OptimizePress” in the footer?

      • David Frosdick

        Under miscellaneous promotion settings.

    • Dean Fraser

      Hi, great theme so far. The opt-in form after Hero image slightly over laps the hero image which is really nice and I like that a lot but when I change the op image to one of my own it makes it smaller and doesn’t over lap with the above hero image?

      Is there a away to fix this?

    • Pierre

      Hi,

      SmartTheme is a very nice theme but does not work well with IE11. Is there a solution ?

      • David Frosdick

        Hi Pierre, we are working on a fix for that. I personally forgot people still use IE 🙂

    • David

      Hey there! Finally found the time to play around with the SmartTheme, liking it so far! Thank you! Wanted to ask you how can we add that shopping cart icon to the nav menu like the one you have on your blog? Cheers!

      • David Frosdick

        Hi David, we are using an icon font with CSS class for that. I’ll see if we can get that added to the KB

    • Dani

      HI,

      I’m finding that none of the theme settings are working. We have no plugins other than what came with the site I believe.

      For example setting up the size of Htags does nothing.

      Also, the line height of everything is waaaay too spread out. Any easy way to fix? All of my css is being overridden. Thanks!

      • David Frosdick

        Hi Dani, Can you reach out to our support team and they will assist you.

    • Teresa Sigmon

      I love the overall look of the new blog. The loading speed for most pages is also much faster. The easy-sharing feature was much needed addition to the blog. THANK YOU!

      My two biggest trouble issues right now are on the blog:

      1) The scrolling header is fabulous. Love it! However, when it scrolls, part of it is transparent (even though I think I have it set to a pale gray color) so it looks stupid because my logo floats across text as it scrolls.

      2) Can I put my own AWeber-integrated optin form in the footer? It seems like the only option I have for this is to the JetPack service.

      Extra things I would love to have and have not figured out if there is a setting I can choose to make this happen:
      1) recent posts in the footer would look better with a photo. I can choose this as an option in Live Editor. Would love to have it on the blog as well.

      • David Frosdick

        Hi Teresa, thanks for your comments on.

        #1 make sure you select the header style option like “basic” from the drop down. It’s easily missed but this will set the nav to your chose colour.

        #2 in integrations chose custom form. That should allow you to add the form.

        Please submit your other suggestions in the feature request area and people can vote on those.

        • Teresa Sigmon

          Got both #1 and #2. Thank you!

          P.S. I also love the search icon in the navigation bar. Lots of good updates with this new theme. Thank you all so much!

    • Ray Goslin

      I like the layout of the new Smart theme. The only things that I’m experiencing is my logo ihttps://allstressmanagement.com/blog/ is smaller than my pages, and the colour selector isn’t working. Not a big deal.

    • Oo

      My support has just expired. I would like to see a demo of the theme on a page somewhere before deciding if i renew. Hopefully there is a demo of a site using it so i can see it? Where?

      thanks!

      • David Frosdick

        We posted a couple of demo sites on the launch blog post, also this blog is using it.

    • Steve Washer

      I’ve bought and installed several pages from the Marketplace. Will these be wiped out by the new theme?

      • David Frosdick

        Hi Steve, install the plugin first then check those page exist in the plugin version. If unsure please reach out to our support team and they will take a look.

    • Juan

      Hello, sorry I’m having a hard time finding where to download the smart theme.. Where to go after login in the members hub?

      Could you please guide me?

      • David Frosdick

        Hi Juan, please contact support and they can check over your account.

    • Peter

      Hello,

      Will this new SmartTheme have the ability to be updated within WordPress?

      It’s nice to always have the latest & greatest version of your theme, but it’s tedious to always check for updates and manually replace them.

      • David Frosdick

        Hi Pete, yes the SmartTheme will notify your when updates are released.

        • Peter

          Great news. Thanks David!

    • Z

      I tried using the Smart Theme + OP plugin. When I did, the LiveEditor would not function properly (would continually prompt me to add a new row, and I couldn’t make any changes to my sales pages), and the pricing tables on my LiveEditor pages would disappear, and simply appear as code. I switched back to the old OP theme, and the problem was solved.

      Any idea what’s going on here, or what I should do so I can use the new Smart Theme AND LiveEditor?

      • David Frosdick

        Hey Zach, we’ll need to login and play with this and do some troubleshooting.

    • Janette Hamilton-Pearce

      All my Facebook comments have disappeared, how do I get them back at the bottom of my blog post.

      • Teresa Sigmon

        My facebook comments on the blogs are also gone.

        However, the FB comments for which I added HTML are still on some of the sales pages. I have a FB developer API. I don’t know how this relates to what FB comment feeds show or don’t show.

    • Chris

      Hi
      I’m using the facebook comments plugin you recommended above but it seems to be taking the copyright info in my footer as a post and displaying the comment box below it.
      I’ve tried everything I can think of but no joy.
      Apart from that I really like the Smart theme 🙂

    • Joseph

      What is the height of the large hero image? I see the minimum width, but not sure what height to make it fit:

      “The average desktop size monitor resolution is around 1280px wide. We would use that as a minimum width. Landscape images will work better for the hero section”

      Is there an exact dimension we can use?

      • James Dyson

        Hi Joseph

        I would recommend a sizing of 1280px x 720px which is 16:9 ratio.

        hope that helps!

    • Luciano

      Oi David e OP Team …

      Preciso traduzir o texto “continuar lendo” e as outras palavras (pesquisa, etc …) para o meu idioma (Portugues Brasil). Você tem alguma sugestão?

      Meu blog: http://www.lifequaly.com.br/

      • Luciano

        Hi David and OP Team…

        I need to translate the text “continue reading” and the other words (search, etc…) to my language (Portugues Brasil). Do you have any suggestion?

        My blog: http://www.lifequaly.com.br/

        Luciano

    • Eduardo

      How can I translate the theme? I would like to translate contents like “continue reading” links, comments headlines and things like this.

      Thanks

    • Rogerio

      I have OptimizePress installed as a plugin on my blog. If I want to use SmartTheme, will I have to redo the installation using another API?
      Your support is incredible!

      • Hi Rogerio

        The SmartTheme is a theme – so you can continue to use the OptimizePress Plugin (this is required anyway to make full use of all SmartTheme features). The SmartTheme will replace your main blog theme – inside Appearance > Themes. So you need to ensure you are ready to switch the look of your blog posts and pages to a new theme before you make the switch

        The API from your Plugin will pass through to the theme so you don’t need to do anything further after installation.

    • Aleksandr

      SmartTeme has no localization to other languages. Do you plan to do it in the future?

    • Ron McLean

      The change wiped out my blog sidebar widgets and gave me the opportunity to start from scratch after I blew away the updated theme and plugin.
      Now I am back to IP2 and not looking forward to trying again.

      • Ron

        I’m so sorry to hear about your sidebar widgets. Unfortunately WordPress does sometimes do this with regard to widgets – I am not sure why but we’ve had the same experience in the past. It’s not specifically the SmartTheme that causes this but most themes I believe when the sidebar structure is different

        If there’s anything we can do to help you – please do contact our support team and they’ll be available to help

    • Bill Gale

      If I update to SMART THEME I want to be certain it will NOT affect anything I have on my website as it now exists with the OPTIMIZE PRESS THEME. Please answer.

      • Hi Bill

        The SmartTheme is likely to affect the layout of your pages – but it will not affect your content. You can always switch back to your previous theme at any time. I would advise making a note of the content you have in your widgets (appearance > widgets) as sometimes WordPress does not restore these properly if you switch back

        Bear in mind you would need to add your branding and other styling in the Theme Options inside the SmartTheme if you switch to this new theme

    • michael dowds

      hello I pur,hed optmize press some time ago but i never got to use it yet but i never got a api key can i use the smart theme what should i do next.

      • Hi Michael,

        If you login to our members hub at https://members.optimizepress.com with your logins we sent you, you will be able to get access to your API Keys. Bear in mind that if you purchased over a year ago you will need to renew your support & updates license to get access to the new SmartTheme as it’s available for customers with an active support & updates license

    • Tyler

      Hi there.

      Is there any way to disable showing the featured image on the homepage layout or blog archive layout? If we don’t have featured images on all our past posts, our blog page now shows the “Header Logo image” beside all the posts. Can we disable this, or will we need to create featured images for all these posts.

      Example: http://www.electric-shaver-guide.com/blog/

      Thanks!

      • Hi Tyler

        That’s a great suggestion! We don’t have this currently, but I’ll certainly pass this request into our features to consider in our next development meeting.

        For now, you can try this custom CSS (add this inside Custom Scripts > Custom CSS):

        .op-content-list-row .col-sm-5{display:none;}

        .op-content-list-row .col-sm-7{
        Width:98.333333%}

        Let me know how that works out!

    • Alain

      Hi,
      Our logo is very small on the blog page (it is not the case with the OP2 pages) and impossible to change the size with CSS.
      Thank you for your help.

      • Alain

        Finally, I found the solution : change the height of the navbar image (from 50px to 90px) :

        .navbar .navbar-brand img {
        margin: 0;
        padding: 0;
        display: block;
        height: auto;
        max-height: 90px;
        width: auto;
        max-width: 205px;
        -webkit-transition: all .2s ease;
        transition: all .2s ease;
        }
        .navbar-brand > img {
        display: block;
        }

      • James Dyson

        Hi Alain

        Do you know what sizes you’re looking to set (height) for your logo – we can probably provide some custom CSS for you. We based the sizes on the most popularly sized logos from our test group, but we realise that this won’t always work for everyone

        Also was it the size on the normal header or the header when you scroll that you wanted to change (or both?)

        • Alain

          Hi James,

          Thank you for your reply. Our target size is 135 X 90. I found a custom CSS that works (you can see above) but I do not know if the code is OK.

          Rgds

    • René

      I noticed that on a category archive page the hero section is not adjustable and not affected by what is set in the theme options. So how can this be adjusted?

      • James Dyson

        Hi René

        Thanks for your message! Our developers are working on some updated options for the category archive pages – this should be in one of the upcoming updates to the SmartTheme which will show as available in your WordPress dashboard when it’s released.

    • Martan

      I want to experiment with using the new template. But, I’m worried that if I don’t like it, I will not be able to return to my original template.

      • James Dyson

        Hi Martan

        If you switch your theme over to the SmartTheme, you can instantly change it back via the Appearance > Themes section as long as you don’t delete your other theme.

    • Toni Nelson

      My major issue with Optimize Press is that it doesn’t integrate with madmimi email service which is owned by Godaddy. Once that happens it will make things much easier.

      • James Dyson

        Toni

        I’ll certainly pass this onto our developers – we do work on adding integrations regularly and I know we have some new integrations in development, so I’ll give them a nudge about Madmimi. We generally work on the solutions which we receive the most demand for but I’ll do my best to get Madmimi pushed forward as soon as possible
